Episode 4 of The Wacky Vegetable of the Week series: Chickpea Tofu!

Did you know you can create tofu using chickpea flour? It’s a simple alternative for your favourite tofu-based dishes, whether in stir-fries or Buddha bowls.

Chickpeas are packed with protein and other nutrients, making this homemade chickpea tofu a smart hack to elevate your protein intake while keeping costs down!

To create chickpea tofu:

Ingredients: (makes 500g - 25g protein)
75 grams Chickpea Flour
300 ml Water

1. Start by measuring the water and bringing half of it to a boil.
2. In a seperate bowl, whisk the rest of the measured water together with the chickpea flour and a pinch of salt.
3. Once your mixture achieves a smooth consistency and the water is boiling, gradually pour the chickpea mixture into the boiling water.
4. Whisk continually for 5 minutes until you achieve a consistency similar to thick mashed potatoes.
5. Pour into a container of your choice and place it in your fridge to set until cold.
6. Once set, cut tofu into cubes and use in any of your favourite tofu dishes!
